McINTOSH -- Mayor Marsha Strange confirmed Friday evening that Council President Joe Phillips resigned. She did not know any other information about his resignation or why he made this decision.
Two attempts were made to contact Phillips but he was unavailable for comment.

This is very interesting, however, I would say it is for the good. Philips is unable to control his temper in meetings and does not seem to consider both sides of the arguments. He is very set in his ways and admits he is hypocritical. Also, I do also think it ironic that June Glass and a select other FEW can speak out in meetings without being chastcised, but others, who are considered less important to Philips cannot speak and are not acknowledged, even after quietly raising their hands. I have seen this happen at many a meeting and hopefully we will have a change of attitude, heart, and mission of the council now. However, I will say its sad that things have had to go this way and I wonder what the future will bring.

I guess Philips didn't want to be recalled and could not stand the heat? Or perhaps something else?

Also, I think that the gavel was going to need a rubber end or something to dampen the noise that philips make with it. Hopefully, the next person will not give us all headaches beating that thing to death!!!!!

Wow! Maybe now the people of McIntosh will be free to run businesses and live peacefully in their homes. This community belongs to all of us, not the few who seem to believe they are the chosen. They need to take care of their own business and stop snooping around town reporting neighbors for nothing. It's time to heal and pull together to assist our council in doing this.

This is a real shame. Joe Philips was elected by a majority of votes. The mistake for Mr. Philips is that his own agenda was more important than the needs of the people. Still, I'm very sorry that another board member tired of the relentless complaints of the town.

I must be the odd person here, cause I'm thinking....yahoo! Enough with the bullying.

While I was finishing my undergrad degree in journalism last year, I reported on McIntosh, Fla. for an in-depth reporting class. I figured that the reporting and the public record files should go somewhere people can access them. Reporters don't report to keep the information they find to themselves. Some of that reporting is included here in a forum that allows response. McIntosh suffers because with no news coverage, the local government and the rumor mill have too much potential to run rampant over residents. I moved to McIntosh in the fall of 1999. My profile
