07.13.06 -- EDITOR'S NOTE: Council president resigns at council meeting

By CHER PHILLIPS
Council President Danaya Wright resigned tonight from the McIntosh Town Council.
That's the big news that shouldn't go unsaid overnight. For what it's worth, I believe it is a loss to the town. She read a very long letter into the record and a good part of it was read through tears. More information on that tomorrow.
I will post the audio file tomorrow and a report. This is an important meeting and if you care about McIntosh and missed it, it's an important download so you understand by hearing for yourself exactly what's come to pass. As always, if you need help with getting a copy because of the size of the download, e-mail me and I will try to help
I'll go into this in greater detail tomorrow. But suffice to say, I bore the brunt tonight for standing up and reflecting in words what I've seen played out in this town. Clearly, not everyone thinks that's what I do here. But to those who do, I thank you (as well as my friend from Gainesville) for your support.

I Fred DelRusso will have to admit that the post I put online was not word for word but I did indeed run into our town worker at the deli and he already knew about Art wanting to remove my palms. You can take it from there. Yes it made me mad. I have done a lot of work to clean up my property first to please my neibor's instead of just worrying about myself. You know that when you renovate a house that your landscaping comes last. Mine didn't because i care about the view for my neibor's.

Cher, thanks for your efforts. I applaude the role you have served. Don't let anyone intimidate you and know that there are many out here who support and appreciate this forum/blog. Not all of us are available to attend every meeting in person. Thus, it becomes inreasingly difficult to follow the winding and twisted path our local politics meanders (or as recently the case - sprints). Communication is key and has been frquently sketchy [given the history what information trickles down through offical means] and your site serves as I believe you inteded, as a means of reporting.
So - thank you ans press on..... - At July 14, 2006 12:28 PM , said...

I visited the McIntosh town council meeting yesterday. I was horrified by what I witnessed. What I perceived as disdain for many members of the audience by the President seemed almost palpable as the Council conducted the meeting. At first it seemed that everyone who wanted to have a say on a matter would be allowed to speak but this quickly devolved into shutting people up and not allowing them to speak. Some seemed to be ignored. Those who were allowed to speak seemed to be people who agreed with the President. I could be wrong here, but that's what it looked like to me. I don't know any of the members of the Council and knew only one person in the audience. When one attendee mentioned perception of the town, all I could think to myself was that my perception of the town had been permanently scarred by watching this meeting.
I've driven through McIntosh and always thought it to be a pretty, quiet, charming town. After 2 hours at this meeting all I can ask myself is, Who would want to live there!? - At July 14, 2006 12:55 PM , said...

Cher I appreciate what you are doing. I know you try very hard to be fair and state the facts. I do have an objection to part of Danya's statement about the emergency meeting that I would not call and she did. The reason I did not call a emergency meeting it was not an emergency.Only 1 lawn mower was broken and I told Paul to mow with it because Melvin was going on vacation. He did not like that so he went to Danya and she call it which was wrong and that was one of the charges.

I'm Cher From McIntosh, FL I'm a graduate student at the University of Florida working on a master's degree in Mass Communication. While I was finishing my undergrad degree in journalism last year, I reported on McIntosh, Fla. for an in-depth reporting class. I figured that the reporting and the public record files should go somewhere people can access them. Reporters don't report to keep the information they find to themselves. Some of that reporting is included here in a forum that allows response. McIntosh suffers because with no news coverage, the local government and the rumor mill have too much potential to run rampant over residents. I moved to McIntosh in the fall of 1999. My profile
