McIntosh Garden Club and Tree Committee dedicate Live Oak, Annual Plant Sale to take place this weekend
Story and photos
By SEAN DOWIE
A Dedication Ceremony of a 16-foot Live Oak was held Thursday by the McIntosh Garden Club, along with members Jill Allen and Sean Dowie of the Tree Committee.
The Tree was purchased as a gift to the Town of McIntosh by the McIntosh Garden Club and as recognition of this day, April 5 , will become McIntosh’s Arbor Day. The Tree was planted between Avenue G & Avenue H on the West side of 6th Street in front of the Merrily Bed & Breakfast. The proprietors of the Merrily have graciously volunteered care of the Live Oak.
During the Ceremony Mitzy Roess read a beautiful poem followed by Nancy Crenshaw’s commemoration of the Live Oak Tree and the Arbor Day Proclamation.
Flutist Neal Crenshaw played his Native American flute to a beautiful original piece, "Under the McIntosh Oaks."
Be sure to attend the McIntosh Garden Club Annual Plant Sale this weekend and please take a moment to drive by McIntosh’s new addition and see what wonderful efforts in maintaining the beauty and character of McIntosh are being done by these fine groups and citizens of the Heart of Florida.

My sister and I quite enjoyed the McIntosh Plant Sale this weekend. We do not live in town, but heard about the sale from a nursery in Hawthorne. We spent almost 2 1/2 hours wandering among the beautiful plants trying to decide which to purchase. We wanted one of everything, but had to settle for two rose bushes for me, two rose bushes for her along with 3 orchids and a wire plant holder. The variety and beauty of the plants for sale was spectacular. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. Thanks for a great plant sale! We'll definitely be back next year!

I figured that the reporting and the public record files should go somewhere people can access them. Reporters don't report to keep the information they find to themselves. Some of that reporting is included here in a forum that allows response. McIntosh suffers because with no news coverage, the local government and the rumor mill have too much potential to run rampant over residents. I moved to McIntosh in the fall of 1999. My profile
